Training for all ages and experience levels
That means YOU!

Darius A. Journigan
Darius A. Journigan is a New York City–based actor, director, and educator with over 20 years of professional experience in film, theatre, and commercial performance. His training includes The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Marymount Manhattan College, and Shakespeare & Company’s 2026 Month-Long Intensive, where he continued developing his classical and voice work.
For the past two years, Darius has taught and directed with Shakespeare & Company, contributing to their educational programming and directing The Tempest and Hamlet in the Fall Festival of Shakespeare. He has taught and directed with The Family Repertory Company since 2016, working with actors across age groups and experience levels in both performance and training capacities.
Darius designed and led the Summer theatre programs at Youth Theatre Interactions (YTI) in Yonkers, building curriculum that integrated voice, movement, text analysis, and ensemble performance. He has also taught at the Thespian Arts Program in Yonkers, supporting young artists in developing both foundational craft and stage confidence.
In addition to institutional work, Darius offers private and group classes, coaching actors ranging from complete beginners to SAG-AFTRA and Equity professionals. His students train for auditions, MFA programs, on-camera work, classical performance, and long-term career development.
Whether working with emerging artists or seasoned professionals, Darius prioritizes clarity, discipline, and growth — equipping actors with the tools to meet both the craft and the industry with confidence.
My approach
Behavior. Breath. Structure.
Acting is not about “showing emotion.”
It’s about responding truthfully when conditions change. My work centers on one core skill: detection before decision.
Before you choose a tactic. Before you push intensity. Before you decorate a moment, you learn to sense what actually shifted. We train the instrument first.
What We Build
- Text & Structural Analysis
- Scene Study with Real-Time Adjustment
- Objective Clarity & Stability
- Tactical Flexibility
- Relationship & Status Awareness
- Vocal & Physical Integration
- Audition & On-Camera Precision
I draw from Alexander Technique, Meisner, Uta Hagen, Chekhov, Laban, Linklater, and other foundational approaches. Not as aesthetic styles, but as tools for awareness and control. Technique is only useful if it serves behavior.
How We Work
We begin with the text — read aloud.
From there, we observe. Not judge. Observe.
Where does breath change?
Where does leverage shift?
Where do options narrow?
Where does new information land? Before we “play” anything, we identify what actually changes in the scene.
We clarify speech when needed. We sharpen articulation. We align on the world, stakes, and structure of the piece. Then we rehearse with precision.
If nothing shifts, we don’t escalate.
If pressure increases, we adapt.
If destabilized, the objective remains. You don’t learn to manufacture emotional arcs.
You learn to respond to changing conditions without abandoning pursuit. What This Produces
Actors who:
- Don’t inflate moments
- Don’t abandon objectives under pressure
- Don’t rely on emotional display
- Can adjust quickly in auditions and on set
- Remain grounded under scrutiny
You become more aware of your instrument — breath, voice, body — without becoming self-conscious. You gain range without losing control. You build resilience without losing sensitivity.
The Commitment
I’ve been working professionally for over 20 years, and I approach teaching the same way I approach my own craft: with rigor and curiosity.
When you work with me, you have access beyond the session. Questions, breakthroughs, frustrations ... we refine them together. If we don’t know something, we investigate it.
Craft is a living discipline.
